"There were some wild names being pitched."

The Boys season 3 episode 5 spoilers follow. Also, this topic discussed is quite NSFW.

Following on from the Charlize Theron cameo and that giant dildo scene, The Boys season 3 has gone one step further by bringing in none other than Seth Rogen for a masturbation scene that turns pretty damn dark.

In the episode, titled 'The Last Time to Look on This World of Lies', Rogen is having a date with Rosie Palms on a video with Crimson Countess, who has a superhero-esque OnlyFans.

But their Skype sesh reaches an unintended climax when Soldier Boy (Supernatural's Jensen Ackles) storms in, angry after learning that she sold him out to the Russians, and kills her on the spot.

Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy, showrunner Eric Kripke took us behind the curtain to reveal just how they, ahem, slotted Rogen in.

"We shot Seth's cameo in his offices in Los Angeles, as the very, very last thing shot for season 3, because it was shot many weeks after we wrapped production," he explained.

"And the truth is, we had a whole list of people that we wanted to be masturbating. There were some wild names being pitched. Just wild, wild names. I'm certainly not going to name anybody! But some really big names."

As you might expect, they had quite a few erection-related rejections.

"For some reason, I don't know why, giant stars don't want to masturbate on camera," Kripke added. "It's so weird. It's just weird. And so we kept going through them.

"And then it started to become a bit of a running joke because as we were burning through people, I said, 'Alright, Seth, we're two or three names away from you having to step in and pitch it for us here.

"And then finally, I sent him an email, and I said, 'I need you to suit up for this, please.' And like a good, brave executive producer, he really stepped up and took one for the team.

"And he's so funny in it. I don't know if you knew, but he's funny. I wasn't sure if you're aware of it. It turns out Seth Rogen's good at comedy, and I'm glad I was able to show the world that."

The Boys seasons 1 and 2 are available to watch in full on Amazon Prime Video. Season 3 premiered on June 3, with new episodes released weekly.
